Read on for some FAQs regarding ART!

What is ART?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a specialized form of psychotherapy that helps people change the way distressing memories are stored in the brain. ART involves combining eye movements with validated therapies like Gestalt, psychodynamic theory, and guided imagery.

2

How does ART work?

In ART, the therapist guides the client through a process of replacing painful or intrusive mental images with new, positive images the client chooses. When the troubling images are transformed, the emotional triggers tied to them typically fade, and symptoms like nightmares or intrusive thoughts can diminish or stop altogether.

3

How long does ART take?

ART sessions are generally the same length as any other therapy session: 45 minutes to an hour. The shift in creating new mental images often happens quickly, with many people experiencing significant relief in just one session. We often see clients ready for discharge within a few weeks of ART -- meaning you can get back to living your life and not be so burdened by your trauma.

4

Who can benefit from ART?

ART does not discriminate -- it has shown to be effective with lots of conditions, including anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, eating disorders, and addictive disorders!

5

How do I know if ART is right for me?

ART works with a variety of conditions. Whether you have a diagnosed mental health condition, or are just exploring whether therapy is right for you, you can schedule a complimentary consultation to find out.

6

What happens in my first session?

The first session focuses on working with your therapist to complete a diagnostic assessment, where the therapist will want to get to know more about you and what you want help with. This is often required for insurance purposes. Much of the information your therapist needs can be completed through your intake paperwork, which will help save time in session so that your therapist can focus more on what you want help with in the moment. You and your therapist would work to identify critical memories that cause you distress, using ART to bring down the emotional reactivity.

7

Can I do ART online or by phone?

ART does require face-to-face contact because of the need to coordinate eye movements. In some cases, this can be completed via face-to-face telehealth. Online counseling is possible with ART depending on your unique situations.
